By Ravi Murugesan | May 30, 2014 | INASP Moodle
We are pleased to announce the 6th AuthorAID online course in research writing. We welcome applications from researchers in developing countries who are keen to improve their skills in writing up research for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

The course is free of cost, and it will be conducted over a 5-week duration from 14 July to 17 August 2014. The course will be facilitated by me.

Researchers can take the course from anywhere in the world as long as they have Internet access and can set aside 3 to 4 hours every week to work on the course. A high-bandwidth connection is not necessary: the course content and activities are text-based. Participants who complete the course lessons and the activities will receive a course completion certificate from AuthorAID.

To learn more about the course and the online learning platform, please see the course outline and this report of our recent online courses.

To apply, please complete the online application form: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/T62HXCY. The application deadline is 30 June 2014.

Before you complete this form, please refer to the PDF copy of the form to familiarize yourself with the questions and prepare responses to the questions that require some thought. Please do not try to fill out this PDF form; it’s meant only for reference. Make sure you use the online form to apply.

Stanford University offered three of their most popular computer science courses to the public this fall, online for free. The courses were so popular that Stanford’s doing it again in January.
This time they’re offering 7 computer science courses:
Computer Science 101 http://www.cs101-class.org/
Machine Learning (one of the offerings this past fall) http://jan2012.ml-class.org/
Software as a Service http://www.saas-class.org/
Human-Computer Interaction http://www.hci-class.org/
Natural Language Processing http://www.nlp-class.org/
Game Theory http://www.game-theory-class.org/

Cryptography http://www.crypto-class.org/

And two entrepreneurship courses:
The Lean Launchpad http://www.launchpad-class.org/
Technology Entrepreneurship http://www.venture-class.org/

No tuition, no textbooks, no set class times (students get a week to complete the assignments). The only downside is that you probably don’t have time to do them all.
I know which ones I’ll be signing up for, how about you?
